YIMBY says latest city plan amendments are a lost opportunity
YIMBY Qld have asked Brisbane City Council to reconsider the draft amendments to the Emerging Community Zone and widen the opportunities for car sharing.
The Major Amendment Package E to Brisbane City Plan proposes to restrict dwelling densities to 18 dwellings/hectare, that is single family dwelling lots, in almost all Emerging Community land in Brisbane. The only exceptions are a handful of Neighbourhood Plans as well as selected sites within 400 metres of major and district centres and high frequency public transport. Applying 400m is well below ‘walking distance’. And why exclude neighbourhood centres. This simply encourages Brisbane to remain a low density sprawling city and restricts the development of compact, walkable communities in our future urban areas.
Major Amendment Package E is heralded as introducing car sharing to Brisbane. The problem is it is very restrictive, must be owned and operated by the Body Corporate, and only equates to one standard private vehicle bay anyway. We support the concept of introducing car sharing to Brisbane but hope it will go substantially further to encourage, support and incentivise car sharing as a viable alternative to the private car.
