Yes to the Housing Supply Action Plan
YIMBY QLD welcome the initiatives proposed by Brisbane City Council in its Housing Supply Action Plan unveiled last month. To encourage infill development in the right locations, infrastructure charges will be discounted by:
- 75% for studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments within inner-city, high density principal and major centre areas with an existing approval post 1 January 2022.
- 75% for studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments with an existing approval post 1 January 2022.
- 50% for studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments within inner-city, high density principal and major centre areas approved from 1 September 2023 onwards.
- 50% for studio, one- and two-bedroom built-to-rent apartments within inner-city, high density principal and major centre areas approved from 1 September 2023 onwards.
The announcement is a much-needed boost for Brisbane’s apartment supply, which have been completed far slower than the 8-year average. Amid concerns of construction costs, housing affordability and accommodating future population growth, the initiative is imperative to meeting dwelling targets aligned with ShapingSEQ.
At YIMBY QLD, we welcome measures to increase housing choice and supply and tackle unaffordability. We encourage further policies from Brisbane City Council to boost the delivery of density and ‘missing middle’ typologies in the right locations and implore councils throughout SEQ to follow suit.
