Objection to proposed citywide amendment – Restricting townhouses from single home areas:
YIMBY Qld have lodged a submission with Brisbane City Council requesting not to proceed with the proposed Major Amendment Package H to the Brisbane City Plan to restrict townhouses and other multiple dwellings from the low density areas. YIMBY Qld objects to this on the grounds that the proposed ban on townhouses will:
- Erode housing choice and diversity across the majority of Brisbane’s residential land
- Reduce housing affordability
- Create negative social impacts
- Further exacerbate our city’s car based urban sprawl legacy
- Pre-empt outcomes of the proposed Council Housing Strategy, which should instead be forward-focused on unlocking new housing opportunities
- Result in inconsistency with the current Strategic Framework of the City Plan 2014
- Result in inconsistency with the SEQ Regional Plan and
- Result in a poor planning outcome for the community of Brisbane.
